New Journey Fellowship

Have you ever noticed those little signs along the interstate that give the mile numbers? We know them as ’mile markers’ or ‘milestones’ and they help us track our progress as we travel down a long road. Life has many such milestones that we choose to recognize and celebrate and we celebrated one of them last night. Our youngest daughter graduated from high-school. Now for her, it marked the completion of her high-school requirements and the beginning of a new part of her life. She will find herself leaving home and going out into this big wide world where she will make new friends and find new adventures. For her it is a strange combination of fear and excitement. She will be stepping out of the familiar and into the unknown. Her life as an adult is just beginning and only God knows what is in store for her.
As her parents, Dawn and I pray that her path will be directed by God. That she will know and follow His will. We pray that what she learned at home will be enough to help her along her way and that God will take her and use her as He sees fit. For us, it is a time of letting go. Of allowing her to make her own decisions and yes, even her own mistakes. It is a time that we are forced to face the reality that our control over her is coming to an end, that the influence that we once had over her will never again be what it was. Yes, for us the event last night was bittersweet, but we know the young woman that she has become and more importantly we know the God whom she loves and have every confidence that He will direct her paths.
Proverbs 3:5 & 6 (applies to all of us!) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.
