The World In Which We Live

Posted on August 25, 2019 at 9:50 AM

The World today is a very different place than the world in which I, and many of you grew up in, but then it is also true that the world into which I was born, was a very different place than the world that my Father grew up in. I remember as a small child asking my Daddy to tell me about the “old timey days” back when he was a little boy. Now I have grandchildren and the days of my childhood, no doubt, seem far more ancient to them. A time in which car windows had to be “cranked” up and down by hand. A day in which we had no AC, neither in our cars, nor in our homes. When it came to TV’s we had no Massive Big Screen Ultra thin 4K TV sets, (we had heard of 4H, but never 4K). No our TV was a big square box with a small black and white screen and we only got 3 channels! I remember a friend of mine who got a 4th (PBS) channel and I felt so cheated. Our one telephone was hung on a wall in our home (not in our pocket), and it had a dial. There was no such thing as a smart phone, and the closest thing to a flip phone that I had ever seen was on the science fiction TV series “Star Trek”. I remember the first PC that I ever saw, and an “Apple” was a piece of fruit that come from a tree.

Yes, today the world truly is a very different place, and I will be the first to admit that I love all the “modern conveniences” and technology, but not everything has changed for the good. You see, the Bible tells us that God never changes, and that is a good thing, but when it comes to mankind, we have not changed either, and the new technology, it simply provides more opportunity for evil people to do more evil things. They have used these tools to make changes in our society far more quickly than would have been possible, just a few short years ago. Now that is the bad news, but the good news is, as I have already said, God has not changed! He is still the same all powerful God that created the entire universe by simply speaking it into existence! He is the same all powerful God that destroyed the entire world with a flood, and yet showed mercy upon on man and his family! He is the same all powerful God that brought the nation of Egypt to its knees so that He could deliver His people: the children of Israel! He is the same all powerful God that delivered the 3 Hebrew children from the fiery furnace, and Daniel from the lions den! Yes, He has used just one angel to destroy an entire army in just one night, He has overturned kingdoms and changed the world as He saw fit, and He still is sitting upon His throne today! No matter what we may see happen in this world, both good and bad, we know that ultimately GOD IS IN CONTROL and that is a very good thing!
