Last year for Father’s Day I wrote “An Open letter to my Children”. But to be perfectly honest I never finished it. I simply wrote till I ran out of time and space. So today I thought that I would try to pick up where I left off. Last year, I spoke about how blessed that I had been to have had the father that I had, and what a powerful impact that he had upon my life. He truly was a man who loved the Lord and loved and cared for his family. The thing that I did not talk about was my own feelings of inadequacy as a father, and the ways that I personally have fallen short of the example that he set for me. My wife and kids are all fully aware of my faults and short comings with regard to being a father, yet in their kindness to me, they would probably say little or nothing about them. But the simple truth is that I am, just like most fathers are, a very flawed individual. So, what are we to do, sink back in despair as we ponder our short comings? I think not, I hope not. No, there is a better answer, our Heavenly Father! He is the answer! He is the one Father who has no faults. He has no short comings. And He loves both us and our children with a perfect, undeniable love.
So, here is the message to my children. “Yes, I am far from the perfect Dad, but we have a heavenly Father who loves you far more than I will ever be able too, and He truly is the perfect Father. He will never let you down, He will never fail you in any way. And He will be with you even when I am dead and gone. - Pastor Tim
