New Journey Fellowship

This morning, at 3:00 a.m., Dawn and I took our ‘baby’ off to the airport so she could catch a flight to Colorado where she will be attending the Summit (worldview camp) for the next two weeks. She seemed so small and yet so grown up as she as she left us there at check-in and boldly headed off into the unknown of security and the mystery of the concourse. Yes, she has left those childhood years and is now entering the thing that we call ”adulthood”. Yes, she is off on her first big adventure all by herself. As her Dad, I confess that I experienced a strange mixture of emotions: Pride, Fear, Joy, Excitement and Heart Break. Now I realize that many of you, having gone through the same experience, know exactly what I am talking about and others of you who only have small children will probably find out far sooner than you can possibly imagine.
It doesn’t seem possible that she is nearly 18, has graduated from High School and will soon be going off to the Word of Life Bible Institute this fall, but those are the cold hard facts. Yes, they grow up and it is far too fast! But what can you do? That’s just the way things are. From the time you bring them home from the hospital they are headed towards the door. But that is the way it is supposed to be. God, after all, does not give them to us to keep, but rather to teach, train and prepare them the best that we can and then send them off on the quest that God has for them. It is then that our roles are changed to that of being there when they both need and want us and to just keep praying.
For those of you who are not where I am yet, those of you whose children are still small and under foot, my advice to you is simply this: Love on them all you can, while you can.
